Pros and Cons of Professional Portfolio

Personal websites, Plaxo, and Linkedin are all great sites for connecting with friends, family, and professionals. It's a great tool for displaying information about yourself.

Personal Website
Pros- This site can be used as a professional webpage. You can design the website by adding your personal touch and having control of what information you want to display. You are not limited to a certain format.

Cons- Networking is not readily available.

Plaxo
Pros- I found the site to be user friendly. I liked that other sites could be linked to this one, for example, Twitter, Facebook etc.

Cons- I found this site to be more social.

Linkedin
Pros- This site can be used as a professional site for networking with professionals, looking for jobs, or to even hire someone.

Cons- I found the site to have many options, but not user friendly.

LibraryThing

I found LibraryThing to be a great resource to keep track of the books one has read. There are many things one can do on this website. LibraryThing can be used for the following: keep track of books you would like to read, read and write reviews on books, and books are suggested for reading based on previous books read. I really think this is a great website, but I personally don't foresee myself using this due to I don't read a lot. I struggle to even sit down and read for 10 minutes, I like to go go go!!!!!!!!! I have attached the link below to my LibraryThing catalog.

Online Image Generators

I really enjoyed the online generators. My two favorite websites were The Generator Blog and Flickr Toys. On Flickrs Toys I found a couple of features I could use for class like the motivator posters and magazine covers. For certain units I could have students create posters and magazine covers pertaining to the unit they are participating in. The site I chose to post below is the Ben and Jerry's Do the World a Flavor. A person can click the website below and can create their own flavored ice cream. How fun is that!!! I love ice cream, so I could see myself getting carried away with this website. Enjoy.

Podcast Discovery....

I still cannot get over how many podcasts are out there!!!! A person can find a podcast on any topic. I liked the podcasts because I can review the podcast on my own time. I can see myself using this tool for my PE classes. I could find a podcast on weight training lifting techniques and tips for my classes to use. The possibilities are endless with this tool.

YouTube....

Here is a video on cat bloopers. Enjoy....

Exploring YouTube...

I found YouTube to be very interesting. An individual could access any kind of video from a homevideo, movie or tv clips, sports videos, ect. There is a variety of unique features, such as, sharing videos to other websites like facebook or twitter. One could create their own playlist or you could mark your favorite video. There is nothing that I didn't like about the website. As far as using this in our school, the website has been blocked. I would need to get special permission to use it. I strongly believe that if this tool was used in the classroom, the teacher would need to do some serious monitoring. I could see where students would not stay on task. I chose this video because I enjoy sports bloppers.

Searching Technorati

I thought technorati has a lot of great features. These features give you a variety of options when you are looking up something about a particular subject. Some of the features include blogs, posts, videos, photos, favorites, support, and the most popular. I don't see myself using this website as much as the others I have been introduced too. I found the website to be userfriendly though.

Del.icio.us

I found Del.icio.us to be a very useful site. With this program I am able to keep track of my favorite websites that I view on a daily basis. All I need to do to keep track of these sites is to bookmark and tag the sites. My other favorite component about Del.icio.us is I can use other popular sites my colleagues are using. I can see myself using this website for school and coaching.

Exploring the Possibilities of Technology...

I believe most of the technologies I have learned about the past couple of weeks can easily be incorporated into my career. I can use technology for the following:
  • Facebook can be used to stay in touch with teachers throughout the state of Maine to share ideas.
  • Google Docs (Awesome Program) can be used for just about anything. I would use it to create presentations on how to play games or teach skills, create assessments, create documents on performance cues, announcements for upcoming events, tests, and what we are doing in class for an activity.
  • Blogger can be used to stay in touch with colleagues.
The possibilities seem to be endless with technology.....

Web 2.0 Awards List...

What I found was really neat about the Web 2.0 Awards List is I liked how they broke everything into categories and ranked the top best three sites. I learned about some new programs yet again that I had never heard of. I am getting overwhelmed by the minute with all this technology. A good overwhelming though!!!!

Google Docs-Sweetness....

Wow....Google Docs is soooooo easy to use!!!! You can do just about anything. Some ways I plan on using Google Docs in my career is:
  • Spreadsheets can be made for the weight room
  • Presentations can be made for how to play a certain game
  • I do a unit on Creating Your Own Game, students could use the presentation or document to create their game and turn it in to me.
I can see myself using this program on a daily basis. Reading through other classmates blogs I came across some other ideas that I can bring into my classroom.

Google Docs

Hello,
I am learning so much about technology.  It takes me a while to become familiar with the programs we are using, but it is so worth it.  Hopefully I will be somewhat of a pro when I get done this technology class!  Not only have I learned quite a bit of information from this class, but I learned alot from classmates about what I can do with this technology in my classroom.

Bloglines Experience

I really like the fact that I can keep all my favorite blogs in one spot. I can stay up to date on all the current information and it's easy access. The only problem I ran into and I am still trying to figure out is how to add my classmates blogs to my blog so it is just a click away. Any advice????

3 things I found interesting in reading these articles....

Article 1 "Neomillennial User Experience Design Strategies: Utilizing Social Networking Media To Support "Always On" Learning Styles"
  • I found table 4 interesting on how the "Always-On" generation uses technology. It was interesting to see the percentages of how many use IM every week, surfing the web for homework help, using IM or email to talk to teachers, and have used IM to find new friends.
Article 2 "Emerging Technologies Changing Public Library Service Delivery Models"
  • After reading this article it still amazes me how many different programs are out there that I have never used, Wikis, RSS feeds and aggregators, blogs, podcasts, etc. It is definitely important that libraries stay on top of the emerging technologies if they want to attract the community members to continue using there services. People want to use the most current information out there that they can find as fast as possible.

Article 3 "Editorial: Examining Social Software in Teacher Education"
  • After reading this article about the facebook incident, I strongly believe social networking should just be used for personal use only outside of the work force. Why would we want to jeopardize our profession and reputation.

Twitter

I just signed up for a Twitter account. Twitter is very easy to use and comes in handy if you want to keep family and friends updated on what you are doing. I will keep up with Twitter while I am taking this class, but after the class is done I don't know if I will keep this up. It's very time consuming since I don't spend a lot of time on the computer. Neat program though!!!!

Technoloy Related Topic of My Interest

I needed to create a post about something in technology related that interests me this week. I have to say this is the most time I have ever spent on using my computer. I don't spend a lot of time on the computer, so this is quite a challenge for me. Out of all the assignments this week I was most excited about getting a Facebook account. I am 99.9% sure I probably would of never signed up for a Facebook account if it wasn't for this class. I am really excited to use this account to get in contact with other colleagues through out the state of Maine. This tool will help me to see what other physical educators are teaching in there classes and we can exchange activity ideas.

Flickr Assignment!!!!

For my technology class I had to learn about Flickr. I had never used this program before. I am learning alot in this class. I wish I had taken a class like this earlier in my undergrad. My experience with Flickr was pretty easy. The only problem I ran into and I still can't figure it out, is I still don't know how to use the Flickr's blogging tool to add the image into a post. For this post I just used the Blogger's photo upload tool to add my picture to this post. I found the photo upload was really easy. Anyways, here is my wonderful dog Mister!!!!! He really enjoys getting his picture taken!!!!

About Me

Hello everyone, my name is Erin Graves. I live in the northern part of Maine. I have been teaching PE for the past four years. I love every minute of it!!!! I coach middle school girls soccer and basketball. I am very exciting to start the kinesiology master's program. I like that the program is online, it allows me the flexibility to still teach, coach, spend time with my family and dog, and work on my masters.
I have never used a blog before, so I am anxious to learn about blogging and see where this takes me. I was wondering does anyone use blogging for there PE classes, if so how do you incorporate it into your lessons?
